The North and West part of this block grow some of my favorite Pinot Noir grapes on the farm from which we make our Whiskey Hill Pinot Noir. The Block to the south of it, what we call the Wedding Block, is predominately Aloha Silt Loam and Wapato and is usually a little slower to ripen making it my favorite block to source fruit for White Pinot Noir & Rosé. The Block by the tasting room is also Aloha Silt Loam and is generally the source of our Postlewait’s Pinot Noir. This is usually the first block to ripen and tends to give us a little more pepper & spice. The block closest to the winery is a new planting in 2017. The East half of that, is small plantings of Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Gamay Noir, Leon Millot and Marechal Foch. The west half of that Block will soon be planted to Chardonnay, as well as more Leon Millot & Marechal Foch. Cheers! Fruit just wouldn’t get as ripe as we wanted due to an odd cool & drizzly rain in September. We ended up with a lighter than normal Pinot Noir, but we love it! One of my favorite things about our wines is our vintages are different! I love letting mother nature put her touch on the wine with whatever she throws at us.
